About Bulgaria: Climate

Bulgaria has 4 seasons with cold wet winters and hot dry summers. The spring and fall are beautiful however! Be prepared for all kinds of weather. While warm clothes and boots are available in Bulgaria, it is a good idea to bring a few pairs of warm socks to start out with. As mentioned, the summer is hot and dry, there is no such thing as air conditioning in Bulgaria! It really is not that bad though, just drink lots of water and stay in the shade to survive.

Bulgarians live in big, tall, mono-Soviet styled apartment high rises. There are elevators in buildings over 4 stories. Missionaries live in apartments by themselves or shared with other missionaries. Missionaries, when compared to the average Bulgarian, have a very high standard of living. There is telephone service and electricity throughout the country and in all missionary apartments. Laundry service, including dry cleaning, is available. Some missionary apartments have washers (sorry no dryers, but lots of clothes lines), and there is always the option of stomping your clothes in a bucket (it's fun really!). There are also water filters in all missionary apartments, and bottled water from Bulgaria's famous mineral springs can be purchased when on the run.
