I just got my call but I do not enter the MTC until April 8, 2009.  So I've got quite a bit of time.  I was just wondering if there was anyone else who is waiting to go who would like to get together and maybe attempt to practice some of the language or share each others knowledge.  Or someone who is returned that could help me to learn the pronunciation of the alphabet.  Thanks.  -Sparky

Congratulations.  A great experience awaits you.  The degree to which it is great depends on how much you put into it and it sounds like you're ready to invest yourself.

A quick search on google will turn up several pronunciation guides for the alphabet.  In addition, I'm sure there are several posted in the threads on the forum.  Getting familiar with it will ease your transition.

Be careful not to get caught up in only preparing physically and mentally.  Your spiritual preparation will be more important than anything else you can do.  If you don't know what to say when the time comes, knowing how to say it won't mean much.

Again, congratulations and success! (Bulgarians don't wish luck.  They only wish success)

Ok, everyone tells me how freezing cold it is gonna be over there. But I'm from Enterprise Utah and yesterday morning it was like ten degrees. Does it get much colder there? And are the summers pretty nice?

It does get cold.  Like you would expect in a typical Utah winter.  It isn't Siberia cold.  However, you will be spending a lot time walking and waiting and so a little cold can add up.  Dress warm.

I'm originally from central Idaho and I found the Bulgarian weather to be very similar. Winters were cold (but not Arctic cold) and summers hot (average temp probably in the 80s-90s with highs around 100).

Although relatively small in size, Bulgaria does have a wide range of geography (mountains, plains, seas, etc.) so the climate will vary some according to which cities you serve in. But overall, I think it will be pretty similar to what you're used to.

Don't sweat it.  It's not the biggest mistake you'll make.  Trust me.

And besides...it's really spelled София.
