Yosif Kovachev Street

When I was working the Sukhata Reka area of the Geo Milev Branch in Sofia in 1994, I recall an odd and peculiar sight when I wish I had my camera with me.

We were tracting an area near where Kiki lived, and I came across a sign that said Yosif Kovachev Street.  In other words, in direct translation, Joseph Smith Street.  In Sofia, Bulgaria of all places! Yosif is a Hebrew name rarely used in Bulgarian and street names are named after famous people.  So who was this Yosif Kovachev guy? 


Did anyone else see this street sign?  I remember we tracted the blok on that street and didn't find anyone home.

I don't know anything about that guy, but it would be cool to find out.

Sounds like it's time to send the Geo Milev missionaries out on a p-day "mission" and report back with a photo of the street sign.

There is a statue in Koprivchitsa that we called the Joseph Smith Statue when we went there.

Solter, was I with you when I saw this street? 

Does the mission president know about the oddity of this street name?  I'm sure a "golden family" lived there, just they were not home when we knocked.
