Not sure what you guys can and can't do with the forum and membership, but I have some ideas:

1.  It was nice to be able to see who was an RM, who was newly called, etc... if there could be a field like that and perhaps a field for years served so that it could be sorted so we can see the missionaries we served with, that would be great.

2.  I don't use ICQ, AIM, MSN, or Yahoo anymore.  I'm strictly a skype guy.  is it possible to add a skype section?

3.  I don't like people to see my email, but I do like people to be able to email me.  There's just too much exposure to spammers if I put it out there.  Is it possible to have an email form so email can be sent without revealing the recipient's email?

That's all.  Minor things that would be nice to have.

Thanks

Adam,

Thank you for your suggestions.  As far as solutions, I have looked at each one.

1. The best way to answer this is to encourage RMs to publish their mission information (presidents, companions, areas, dates) in their Profile Signature.  On the actual web site, the RM database will include search functions for such information.

2. It IS possible to add a Skype section; however, after spending over 2 hours looking for a solution, editing PHP code and not getting intended results, I must say that this will require another attempt.  I am looking for a quicker solution, such as a Skype plugin.  Here is the method I tried, Tutorial: How to COMPLETELY integrate Skype -- not all the pieces of code were there to work with.

3. I activated this function: 'Do not reveal contact details of members to guests'.  So only registered users will be able to see your e-mail info; guests/outsiders will only see 'hidden'.  This solves half the problem, hiding your e-mail from spammers, but the other half, creating an automated email form is something I have not figured out yet.

UPDATE:  Richard and I found and installed a forum mod with a Skype plug-in.

The Good: you will be able to skype Blindspot i drugi when you see the Skype icon

The Not-So-Bad: when you modify your profile (go to your Profile page, under Modify Profile, click Forum Profile Information), you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to add your skype call name - under Web Site URL.  I intend to correct this slight glitch.

I patched the Skype mod so that it puts the Skype Username field after the Yahoo Instant Messenger field--a much more logical place.

This is great guys!  When are you going to announce it to on the old site for people to move over to the new one?

We'd like to port some, if not most, of the old content and functionality from the existing site over to this site too. The plan is for this site to replace the old one. We don't want to publically announce this new site until it's somewhat complete. Otherwise users will have to deal with two separate sites...
