I thought this might be worth sharing...in Fort Collins, Colorado there is a grocery store called "Sunflower Market" and they have liutenitsa, pecheni chushki, trushia, and yes, istinsko sirene!  Of course they are called by more boring names, like, "Roasted pepper and eggplant appetizer", but on the side of the jar it says "product of Bulgaria" and it's the real deal.
The website is www.sfmarkets.com -- if they have a location within driving distance, or even short road trip distance Smiley  if it means satisfying your craving for sirene, it's definitely worth checking it out.

I'm jealous, nothing even close to me... they're all in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona.

You must have looked at a jar from the ZER GUT company....

I love their products and have them stocked in my year supply at all times!

ZER GUT (what a German name for a Bulgarian company!) makes all kinds of stuff -- roasted red peppers, guvetch filling, eggplant appetizer (in Plovdiv it was referred to as palamajan), lytentitza and all sorts of other good stuff, all from Bulgaria.  The only down side about ZER GUT is that they only sell to retail or whosalers.   Cry

You can also find their products some times at Cost Plus World Markets.  And if you are ever in the Tempe, AZ area they have isles of great ZER GUT and other Bulgarian products at Haji Baba's Arab Market and Cafe.  Haji's is on Apache about 1/2 mile west of McClintock across from the fire station in a very run down looking strip mall.  Look for the marquee written in Arabic.  I make it a point to stop in every Christmas when I'm home to stock up.

Yeah, Zer Gut products are very good (pun intended) Grin

Hey Richard, if you ever come up to Seattle area, there is a little place in Renton that does mostly Russian food called Vitmar. The cirene is the real deal and they've all the products listed above. I stop by there every few weeks or so to stock up.

After doing some searching I have found two different stores in Oklahoma that have Bulgarian food. One sells the Zer Gut brand and the other sells sirene. I also found savory there too. So if anyone is passing through Oklahoma there are places to buy Bulgarian food. I was also able to find canned sarmi that is from Turkey.

FYI...

You can find savory in most regular stores in the spice isle.  Look for the lable that says Savory or Summer Savory.  They are the same thing, and you can find them ground (which is a bright green powder and easier to cook with) or whole, it will look like any dried herb.  You might see something that is called winter savory...it's a differnt herb though, it's still good, just different.
