To all of you great BSM returned missionaries:  My son has asked me for a dessert recipe they can make for zone conference.  I'm not sure what ingredients he can get there.  I read Brinton's recipe for chocolate chip cookies w/o the brown sugar because brown sugar was not available there when she served. Do they have it now?  (I have sent him that recipe.)  Can they get cake mixes?  Brownie mixes?  Pudding mixes?  I have my doubts because he once asked me to send brownie mix.  Do any of you have suggestions for an easy zone conference dessert?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...not only by me, but by my son's zone  Smiley

Brown sugar is sometimes available.  It used to be plentiful, but recently I have not been able to find it.  So the short answer to that is...maybe.  The trick to finding it is...look in the diabetic foods section.  Oddly enough, that is usually where they keep it.

As for mixes...no cake mix, no brownie mix.  Those have to be made from scratch.  Pudding mix, however is easy to find.  Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry instant pudding is everywhere.  Regular cook-it-on-the-stove pudding is also available in a couple additional flavors.  As for desserts that can be made and enjoyed by everyone...sugar cookies are easy enough.  Pies, especially fruit pies, are pretty easy as well.  Peanut butter, although not common, can be found and peanut butter cookies are pretty easy.  There are even Jello-type mixes that can be found, although I have never tried them (not a big fan myself).

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the information!  I've sent him some "from scratch" dessert recipes.
