So...this happened a few years ago. 2003 I think. I had moved back home to help my parents out with my adopted siblings, while I was also working full time as a Social Worker. I came back home late one night and I went down to the basement to my bedroom and there in the family room in the basement is my dad and Gary Stephens chowing down on pizza, in their comfy clothes, and watching an old war movie.
The encounter struck me as a little wierd...and slightly awkward. I kept my cool and said..."Now you kids don't stay up too late..." and went to bed.
They put the greasy pizza on my pretty bathroom towels too...what are they 12? Can't you get up and go upstairs and get some paper towels?!?
(Ladies, tell me you're in support of my irritation on that account!)

"Now you kids don't stay up too late..."

That's all you said? No "Hi President", or "What are you doing here?"? I think I'd probably freak out if I came home and found President Stephens down in the basement watching a movie with my dad. Not to mention I'd steal three or four slices of their pizza for myself... Cheesy

They became friends when he was first called as president, and I was in the field. After Gary was released, he and my dad did some business together, and would go out to lunch, or dinner. But I didn't really expect the basement encounter. I hadn't lived at home for years...plus it had been 5 years since the mission. It was nice that my dad made the connection though...the Stephens came to my wedding, and that was nice.
